Congrats to Mello Music and Brown on pressing the vinyl! She decided to release a track to celebrate the milestone in her early yet successful career. Check out version one of “Baby Girl”, produced by Georgia Muldrow.
Looks like after last week, Boog Brown is back to busy. And when you add my man Stanza to the mix, there’s some true chemistry on the mic. Check out this King I Divine produced track from the upcoming Salem Psalms release “Beatz & Lyrics to Go: Vol. 2″. (I’m guessing you all are familiar with A3C, right?) Feel this, and head to bandcamp…
It’s a question that, for a long time, was painful to hear asked so often for so long. “Where the female emcees at?” In such a heavily male-dominated genre of music, the girls often get overlooked, unless of course, she’s half-naked with a “sex sells” attitude. Yet underneath the gleaming mysogynist side of rap music, hides a girl that really can rhyme. Often times, she’s cute too. Nonetheless, though rare in most circumstances, she hopes to be heard BEFORE being seen.
Nitty Scott, MC – “Work (Grustlin’)” – Her grind and hustle. She calls it her “grustle”.
Boog Brown – “U.P.S.” – What can Brown do for you?
What I love most about this list of women is that they don’t fit the stereotypical female rapper that has to objectify herself and strive to fit into a narrow class that forces them to settle for less than what they believe in. They still have fans. They still can express themselves. They don’t have to compromise their art to be successful. SALUTE!!
Everyone keeps asking, “Where are the real female emcees at?” Well…this was put on to me earlier this week, and now it’s everywhere. Check out this visual from ATL’s Boog Brown. This track is produced by Apollo Brown, and bangs masterfully. If you asked the previous question, this should answer it pretty well…
